Minnesota Lao Prepare for DTV

Minnesotans are coming together as part of a social justice effort to ensure a smooth transition to DTV on June 12th. One of the leading organizations is the Lao Assistance Center, along with Grass Roots Solutions, Main Street Project and the MN Media Empowerment Project.

Vermont Honors Laotian Artist Souphine Phathsoungneun

The Vermont Heritage Artist Governor’s Award was presented to Lao artisan Souphine Phathsoungneune in May, 2009, the first time the award has been presented to a Southeast Asian.

Laotian musician Noi Sengsourigna is currently visiting the US learning more about Laotian American culture and customs and sharing her own knowledge with the community in preparation for what will hopefully be a larger concert and educational series in 2010.

From Stage to Sia[b]: An Interview with May Lee Yang and Katie Ka Vang

Hmong American writers and performers Katie Ka Vang and May Lee Yang teamed up in May to present a new production of SIA(b) by May Lee Yang with the Center for Hmong Arts and Talent at the Gremlin Theater. Directed by Robert Karimi, the two-woman play explored many intriguing aspects of Hmong American life on stage. Bakka Magazine had a chance to interview them.
