There is a familiar Lao adage that says,
ຂອງກິນ ບໍ່ກິນ ມັນເນ່ົາ
ເຣື່ອງເກົ່າບໍ່ເລົ່າ ມັນລືມ
Food left uneaten
Gets spoiled
History left untold
Is soon forgotten
How history will be remembered by Cambodians will depend partly on the long overdue Khmer Rouge Trial, in which Pol Pot’s men, many of whom are now in their 70s and 80s, are tried for crimes against humanity. The trial may finally deliver justice to the 1.7 million victims who died under the Pol Pot regime. The following photographs are from the infamous Khmer Rouge jail known as Tuolsleng, which since has been converted to a genocide museum.
